Fiddler's Grove and A Louisiana Woman
This upcoming weekend marks the 81st anniversary of this Smithsonian recognized Old Time Fiddler's Convention. This year we will be honoring the life of Wansie Van Hoy who has helped run this festival with her widowed husband Harper. I grew up going to this festival with my sisters and brothers, grandparents, uncles, and aunts. We would pick honeysuckles, try to clog on the wooden platforms in front of the mainstage, watch the ongoing fiddling competitions, meet all sorts of friends from towns you can't imagine in North Carolina, and, of course, listen to Dad and his band of Bluesmen and women sing.
Then I hopped in! And have now been singing with Blackgrass for about 6 years at this Old Time Fiddler's Convention. So, this weekend, if your looking for something to do, head over to the intersection of I-40 and I-77 in Western North Carolina, get off the "Harmony" Exit by 10:30am on Saturday morning, and join us! all details www.fiddlersgrove.com We play at 10:30am and 2:30pm on Saturday and at 1:30pm on Sunday afternoon.
In the meantime, The Song of the Day is: Louisana Woman, Mississippi Man by Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty. I can't get enough of it this month.
