Fugazi, Pearl Jam, my dog, Ivy, and mIsCoNnEctIOns!
here's the chronology...
1) in September backstage as a volunteer at the anti-war protest, I was talking/meeting one of the musicians from Thievery Corporation. His buddy (a gentleman in a pruple/magenta loooking hat who looks like a mix between michael stipe and elvis costello...where's this elvis costello looking hat thats magenta) was backstage too at the protest. He was a musician but not with Thievery. I was informed at the time that it was Ian MacKaye from Fugazi (Pearl Jam's beloved favorite band, apart from the Ramones that is.) For a Pearl Jam lover, you take note when their favorite musicans are around.
2) Monday night, I'm walking the black shadow that is my bloodhound/lab mix named Ivy in between Adam's Morgan and Mt. Pleasant near the saving grace of a dog park in the district, and barely anybody was around...understandable, its the end of a beautiful and hot memorial day. I'm focused on the ground, but these 3 men walk by me (and as I said, nobody else is around). I made eye contact with the one in the middle. He looks familiar with his magenta hat. 10 seconds later, I realize he's the guy from backstage and he's a musican. Intersting, he must live in Adam's Morgan, Mt. Pleasant area. But yet, I couldn't remember which band he was with...not Thievery Corporation, but friends with them from what I could remember when I was volunteering.
3) Then at Pearl Jam last night, there is only one person on the side stage watching the show besides the audio engineers and sound man..one friend of the band it appeared. It's the man in the purple hat. I had just seen him the night before, so I was super caught off guard to see him on stage, clearly chummy with Pearl Jam.
4) THEN, of the few things eddie says comes..."We've really enjoyed our stay here in Mt. Pleasant last night. It's very Pleasant in Mt. Pleasant." something like that.
The only person on stage with them is this DC musician who I had just seen in Mt. Pleasant the night before who's story and name I couldn't fully remember. And here PJ had just said they were hanging in Mt. Pleasant the night before. The guy in the magenta hat had two men on either side of him on their walk, but I didn't look hard, just looked at the ground. I would have noticed if they had a beard. So it wasn't Eddie or Jeff I don't think. So it end up it was Ian MacKaye and I think it might have been Stone or Matt with him in the park the night before. And the whole concert i was thinking "Wow! ... Look at that... I just saw them all in the dog park last night."
A misconnection if ever there was one.
