Fall in Washington

Rainy days and falling leaves are making this woman happy. Walking Ivy is less like swimming in a swamp and more of a joy.

And, the fact that JR scored me a ticket to Wilco at the 9:30 Club in October is pretty lovely as well.

... Big Hillbilly Bluegrass at Madam's Organ with Mike on the Banjo last night... the Whigs in town on Monday night at the Blackcat... Rogue Wave tonight at the Blackcat....Nya Jade at Grog and Tankard in Georgetown last night.... The Potato Famine at Adam's Morgan Day on Sunday... and Orquestre Ashe at Duke's City last friday night....

its a good time to be in the district!

We also had a blast meeting and playing with The Bridges and The Modern Skirts this past Saturday down in Atlanta. What talented youngins! Check them out (www.myspace.com/thebridgesmusic) and (www.myspace.com/modernskirts.... I'd start with the tune "Pasadena"). It was eeeeeeery driving back home to DC on 395N across the 14th Street bridge at 3am (technically the early early morning of September 11th) and seeing at least 15 spotlights exuding up into the sky from the center of the Pentagon...in remembrance. With all the windows in the Jeep down and nobody on the highway, or in the pentagon parking lot, but all the lights on inside the building and this massive illumination coming from the center over a town fast asleep. Wild.

Song of the Day: India Arie (Constitution Hall Oct 4th by the way) "Better People" YEAH! (You'll know what I mean when you go download it! It's great... little funky freedom song) And in this vein, I helped my banjo teacher create a MySpace account for himself (BanjoManFC) and he taught me how to pick the old traditional piece I've had such trouble with "Whiskey Before Breakfast". Cheesy? yes. But I was inspired:)

India Arie lyrics from "Better People"
"We went from radio to TV
Now we're going from LP to CD
Don't be afraid

To try something new
I can help you with the brand new technology
Help me with the age old philosophy
Together there's so much we can do with:

Young People, who talk to
Old People, it would make us
Better People, all around...

And if Old People would talk to
Young People, it would make us
Better People, all around....

They say that every
Generation gets worse
Whether if your generous or no purse

These problems tend to strive off the sky (yeah)
Listen to Mahatma Ghandi's words
Be the change you want to see in the world
Start with yourself and healing will multiply
AAAAAAH, that's what happens When..

If black people
Would talk to white people
It would make us
Better People
All Around....

If Republican people would
Talk to Democratic people
It would make us diplomatic people
[laugh] All Around....."
